Week 29!

Welcome back 1A Families,

I hope that you and your children had a restful and enjoyable spring break! It’s hard to believe that we are in the final quarter of first grade.  We are ready to hit the ground running to continue all of our great learning!

Homework

Nightly: Read for 15 minutes, practice poem (1 minute), practice rocket math (1 minute) 

Phonograms: or, ng, ow, sh, th, ie, ee, ear, dge, y

Tuesday: morning, however, mind, shall, alone, order, third, push, point, within and math wkbk. pg. 86-89

Wednesday: body, field, belongs, cheese, earn, edge, feather, fence, funny, going and wkbk. pg. 92-95

Thursday: Review all 20 words and Test B


Academics

Poem: Sing a Song of People by Lois Lenski  Idiom: A.M. & P.M.

Spalding: Due to spring break on Monday, we will only have 20 words this week and our Spelling Test will be on Friday!

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises will be from Pollyanna by Eleanor Porter.

Grammar: We will begin a new unit this week on adverbs. An adverb is a word that describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb. We will practice writing sentences with adverbs and identifying the adverbs within other sentences.

Math: We will review double digit addition, double digit subtraction and multiplication to ensure mastery of these skills.

Literature:  This week we will read George the Drummer Boy which offers the reverse perspective from Sam the Minuteman at the battle of Lexington and Concord.

History: This week we will learn about key aspects of Puritan life and understand that other colonies sprang from Massachusetts. We will review and take an assessment on Friday.  A review guide will be sent home on


Science: This week we will continue to learn about rocks and minerals. We will review the three types of rocks learned before break: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. We will explore the many materials, items, and products that are made up of minerals. On Thursday, we will pretend to be geologists and will conduct a special rock investigation! Please check your child's green folders on Tuesday for specific instructions regarding this activity.
