Week 38! Last Week :'( :')

Happy Monday 1A families,

It’s hard to believe that we have made it to the final week of school! Each day, we are going to do something special to round out the year! Please see the announcements below!

Thank you for sharing your child with me this year.  We have all learned so much from our time together and it has been a pleasure watching them grow.   Thank you for all of your efforts to support your child and our class during the course of the school year! I hope that you have a wonderful summer and I wish your child the very best. They will always have a very special place in my heart and I hope they come back to visit me as second graders! 

Announcements
Thursday: Please bring a bag for desk clean-out!

Thursday: Bring a Book! Please have your child bring one of their favorite books to read!

Friday: Classroom celebration! We will be playing some water games and enjoying pizza together! Please look out for more information from our class moms. 

Summer Work: Today I will be sending home some optional ideas/activities for summer review and 2nd grade readiness. I will also be offering one-on-one tutoring during June & July so please contact me via email if you are intersted, I'd love to work with your child!

Spalding: We will have 11 words this week and the Spelling Test will be on Wednesday!

Writing/Grammar: We will do our recitations of My Shadow by Robert Louis Stevenson. We will also have a WPR of all 70 phonograms. We will also make a first grade memory book!

Literature: For our last story of the school year, we will read Pinocchio! Students will enjoy describing the characters and making a puppet at the end of the week.

Math: We will review what we have learned in math during first grade and complete a special math project.

History: This week in history we will be learning about voting in the United States.

Science: We will do some final outer space exploring!

Week 37!

Academics

Spalding: We will have 30 words this week and the Spelling Test will be on Friday!

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises will be from Charlie and The Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl and Socky by Beverly Cleary. 

Grammar: Students will work to write, correct, and complete grammatically correct sentences using great detail and illustrating their writing where necessary. 

Literature: This week we will be sampling different stories including selections from Winnie the Pooh, the Pied Piper and The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

Math: We will be wrapping up double digit addition and begin a unit of money.  We will also be taking our end of the year math assessment and math facts assessments.

History: Next week will be all about our lovely state, Arizona!  We will learn about various state symbols, the state flower, state bird and the 5 C’s of Arizona.  As students learn about state 48, they will compile their knowledge into a state project to take home on Friday.


Science: This week we will wrap up our unit on Astronomy with a quiz and some crafts. On Monday an optional astronomy review sheet will be sent home to prepare for the upcoming quiz on Tuesday. On Thursday students may make their own solar system crown and 3D space objects.

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises will be from Sir Gawain and The Green Knight, King Arthur and His Knights of the Round Table, and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory. 


Grammar: This week we will be using all parts of speech learned so far this year to practice writing sentences on our own. Students will write complete sentences with a capital letter, punctuation mark, noun, and verb. Students will try to include as much detail as possible using adjectives, adverbs, pronouns, contractions, and transition words.


Literature: This week we will find out if Elmer Elevator is able to save the dragon and escape Wild Island as we finish this wonderful book!

Math: We will learn the process to subtraction double digit subtraction.  As your child completes their homework, please encourage them to be mindful to subtraction the ones and then the tens. Please ensure that your child practices their math facts for at least a minute each night to enhance math fact fluency. Thank you!

History: We will explore various United States symbols this week including the Liberty Bell, the White House and the Bald Eagle.

Science: This week in science we will be finishing up the last planet on our journey, Neptune. We will also be learning about astronauts and what life is like in outer space. Next week we well have our astronomy review and assessment.
