Week 17!

Happy December 1A Families!

Congratulations to Jacey for demonstrating courage during the month of November and earning the virtue of the month!  We are looking forward to practicing and demonstrating humility during the months of December and January.

Announcements

Class Book Exchange: During our world religions celebration on December 19th, we will have a class book exchange. Your child is welcome to bring a wrapped book (used or new) and will receive a new (to them) book in return!

Winter Dress Code: Winter dress code has begun! Shorts are longer permitted and girls must wear tights or knee socks with dresses.  Pants must be worn with belts.  Also, please ensure that your child wears black sneakers for P.E. (Monday and Thursdays).  Thank you!

Snacks:  As the year progresses and our scholars continue to grow and grow so do their appetites! Please make sure to send in two snacks each day, one for the morning and one for the afternoon. These snacks help the class stay energized and ready to learn all day long!

Academics

Poem: Table Manners by Gelett Burgess  Idiom: The More The Merrier!

Writing: Copy work and narration exercises will be from The Saturdays.

Grammar: We will practice writing complete sentences. Complete sentences must have a capital letter, punctuation mark, a subject, and a verb. We will also practice how to write with abbreviations and titles of respect. 

Math: This week’s form of measurement is capacity! Students will compare the capacity of two containers as well as estimate and measure capacity using non-standard units of measurement. 

Literature:  We will journey through the four seasons with Frog and Toad as we read Frog and Toad All Year. Please ensure that your child has their copy at school to be read during class time.

History:  This week we will begin our unit on Mexico. The students will learn how to locate Mexico is relation to Canada and the United States. We will learn about the mix of Native American and Spanish heritage in Mexican culture as well as what tradition is and how a fiesta and piƱata are important Mexican traditions.


Science: This week we will continue to learn about matter. We will study closely the different relationship between solids, liquids, and gasses. Scholars will complete two different experiments and observe chemical reactions such as evaporation and condensation. 

I was really feeling the holiday spirit this weekend! Isn't it just the best time of the year?
