Week 12!

Greetings 1A families,

Happy Monday! Last week we got to celebrate winning the box top competition for quarter 1! The scholars of 1A turned in over 700 box tops! Aaron Daddy and Kylie Casey were our top two winners and received special prizes for their extra hard work.

It's also my pleasure to share that Miss Adlee Adami has received our virtue award for the month of October! Thank you for your great Honesty, Adlee! 


This week is our readathon and we're looking forward to a day of celebrating reading! Have a wonderful weekend!

Winter Concert: Our Winter Concert is quickly approaching! It will be at Higley Center for the Performing Arts on November 14th.  Students’ attire for our performances is NOT school uniform. Gentlemen are expected to wear a plain white collard shirt, black pants, black socks and black closed toed shoes. Solid dark colored vests and ties are optional for gentlemen. Ladies are expected to wear a white top, black skirt, black tights and black closed toed shoes. Please have your first graders at Higley Center for the Performing Arts by 5:00pm.

Rocket Math: Rocket math sheets are sent home every Monday. Please make sure to practice these sheets for 1 minute each night. These sheets do not need to come back to school. If your child fills in all the answers with pencil, consider spending the time saying the answers orally or creating flash cards for the next night. 

Academics

*While the goal will be to memorize the whole poem, scholars will only be assessed on two stanzas

Friday: Practice phonograms 

Grammar: We will practice identifying nouns and verbs, create sentences using these parts of speech, and learn how to distinguish between the two.We will have a noun/verb quiz on Thursday.


Math: We will learn various strategies when adding two digit numbers including “making ten”, adding a two-digit number and a one-digit number and subtracting from a two-digit number

Literature: We will continue to enjoy and respond to Frog and Toad are Friends. We will finish the book on Friday!

History:  This week in history we will begin our world religions unit. On Monday we will introduce what religion means and where it comes from. On Wednesday and Friday we will look closely at Judaism and the story of Moses.

Science:   We will review all that we have learned about oceans this quarter including sanity and density, ocean zones, sea animals and plants, and coral reefs. There will be an oceans test on Thursday. An optional review will be sent home on Tuesday.
